An apparent return to the fundamentals that have made the franchise successful is hinted at by the new title, Everybody Loves Jenifa. Akindele is in charge of the creative team, so audiences can expect funny scenarios and the return of well-known characters.

Since its premiere in 2015, the sitcom Jenifa’s Diary has been a popular programme on Nigerian television. Aiyetoro Town (2019), which is situated in Jenifa’s village, and Jenifa on Lockdown (2021) are two of its spin-offs and sequels.

Akindele portrayed Jenifa in the franchise’s first film, Jenifa (2008), a rural girl who travels to the metropolis in search of money. The film was directed by Muhydeen S. Ayinde.

In 2009, the film received nominations for four Africa Movie Academy Awards: Best Nigerian Film, Best Original Soundtrack, and Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Akindele won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in this film.
