Nigerian musician, songwriter, and producer Oluwajuwonlo Iledare better known as Jaywon, has apologised to his younger colleague, Ayra Starr, after being accused of mocking her for being ignored by the Grammys.

The 67th Grammy Awards candidates were just revealed, and although many well-known Nigerian singers were included, Ayra Starr was left off the list despite her incredible performance this year.

Jaywon, who has been embroiled in an online feud with Ayra Starr, posted a picture of himself holding two Grammy awards shortly after the announcement, which many took as a jab at Starr.

Jaywon has since expressed regret for his acts in response to the criticism. According to him, Ayra Starr is among the top female African vocalists.

He explained that he doesn’t pull people down but elevates them for future purposes. Jaywon wrote on his official account on the microblogging platform X:

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.

“On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan.”

Jaywon is a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organisers of the Grammys.

The This Year crooner shared the exciting news on Wednesday, July 10, including messages from the Recording Academy about his selection.

Jaywon who accepted the offer expressed gratitude to be joined by colleagues in the popular music community.
