Halima Abubakar takes legal action against AGN president following her suspension

Actress Halima Abubakar has filed a lawsuit against Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) president Emeka Rollas after the latter was suspended for allegedly disseminating false information.

Following a lengthy two-year investigation that allegedly found Halima guilty of spreading false information about her coworkers and prominent figures in the entertainment sector, Emeka revealed Halima’s suspension last Friday, sparking the controversy.

The AGN has accused Halima of spreading false information, including sensational rumours of extramarital affairs involving some of the most well-known people in the profession. These accusations are especially scathing.

In a defiant response, Halima’s legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, has fired off a powerful letter dated October 20, vehemently rejecting Emeka’s accusations as “false publications.”

The court documents vividly depict Halima’s anguish, emphasising the psychological toll the accusations have had on her, particularly given her continued medical issues.

In an effort to damage her reputation and “spark public outrage” against her at a time when she is at a low point in her life, Emeka’s attorneys have accused him of taking advantage of her precarious situation.

The legal team is requesting that Emeka issue a public apology in addition to retracting the hurtful statement. The enormous amount of N3 billion (about $7.5 million) in damages they are requesting highlights the gravity of the accusations and the toll they have had on Halima’s life and career.

The letter concludes with a dramatic seven-day ultimatum for Emeka to comply with these demands, warning that failure to do so will result in immediate legal action.

Parts of letter reads;

“Instead of respecting our client’s rights to privacy and a fair hearing, you chose this sensitive period to promote your false story,

“Your false publication has severely damaged our client’s reputation and continues to do so with every passing minute”
