57

Popular stand-up comedian, Bovi Ugboma, has lost his father Edward Sagini Ugboma.

In an Instagram post, the stand-up comedian shared a photo of his father while disclosing he died “peacefully” on Thursday.

He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support during the “period of mourning”, adding that details of funeral arrangements will be communicated soon.

Although the cause of death was not announced, Edward is survived by seven children and grandchildren.

“We, the Ugboma family, wish to announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, and uncle, Dr. Edward Sagini Ugboma (PhD), on this day, the 13th of February 2025,” he wrote.

“He is survived by his children, Judy, Edna, Bovi, Zino, Tano, Tome, and Jii, many grandchildren and loving relatives.

“We are grateful for all the calls and messages in this period of mourning and gratitude. Funeral rites will be announced soon.”

Fans and colleagues have offered their condolences in the post’s comments section.

In 2023, Bovi described his relationship with his father as “complicated” and not “friendly”.

He said he would like to raise his children differently from how he grew up under his dad.

Bovi made his stand-up comedy debut in Nigeria’s premiere comedy franchise, Night of a Thousand Laughs, organized by Opa Williams.

Since then, he has become a household name in the Nigerian comedy industry.

He is also an actor and producer. He premiered his first movie ‘It’s Her Day’ on September 9, 2016.

In 2017, he was nominated for the AMVCA awards as the best actor in comedy.
