How Burna Boy introduced live band into Afrobeats – Ruger

Nigerian artist Michael Adebayo Olayinka, better known as Ruger, claims that his Grammy-winning colleague Burna Boy introduced the live band into Afrobeats performances.

Before Burna Boy began utilising a live band, he claims that the majority of Afrobeats artists performed on stage with DJ sets.

Burna Boy, he claimed, made live performances “enjoyable.”

Speaking in a recent chat with Billboard alongside BNXN, Ruger said:

“Before Burna Boy started this live band thing most Afrobeats Act would just go on stage with their DJs and bounce, Burna boy makes live performance enjoyable.

“I don’t care if they give Burna Boy his flowers or not, but we the youngins from Nigeria know what he has done.”

The “Asiwaju” hitmaker had declared in January that he would be launching a new record label called “Blown Boy Entertainment.” Additionally, he changed the titles of his social media profiles to match the new label.

He expressed his gratitude to D’Prince and Jonzing World in an Instagram post, but he also stated it was time for him to place a wager on himself.

In another story, Ruger disclosed the reasons behind his split from D’Prince’s label Jonzing World.

Ruger stated that although he is grateful that his previous record company made him well-known, he was unable to extend his contract since the label did not promote his brand to the extent that he felt it should

He said that D’Prince, the head of his former record label, had abandoned him and was using the money from his music to find other artists.

Ruger vented on X on Thursday, saying he had more to say but was afraid of getting stabbed if he revealed more information about the record company.

He wrote,

“As much as I’m very appreciative of the fact that Jonzing world introduced me to the world, I just couldn’t continue with them because they got too comfortable with the money they were making from me and couldn’t push me further as I wanted to be pushed. Was supposed to renegotiate the contract but I couldn’t imagine 5 years more without action.

“Dey use my money Dey fund new artist, leaving me in the dark, not being transparent. I just laugh. How e be now?

I complained, I got angry, some people tell me say no be so dem Dey do things. I still go back HQ go collect fake hugs and handshakes. Nothing still change. I wan mad

“Many things to to talk but dem fit go wait for me for ikoyi link bridge stab me wotowoto.”
