Music entrepreneur and the Mavin Record boss Don Jazzy told an interesting story about how he almost sold the Mo’hit records.
Don Jazzy described a difficult time in an interview with Bounce Radio when he attempted to sell Mo’hit Records, the record company he co-founded with Afrobeats icon D’banj, for just one million naira.
Don Jazzy acknowledged his unsuccessful attempt to sell the label to Nigerian music producer Obi Asika when questioned about it.
According to Don Jazzy, the attempts followed D’banj’s record “Tongolo,” which attracted a lot of attention but didn’t bring in the money they had hoped for.

Don Jazzy was able to sell Universal Music, the world’s largest music company, the bulk of his second label, Mavin Records, for $150 million in 2024.

The music mogul, who described the partnership with UMG as a new phase in Mavin Records’ history, expressed his excitement over the news.
