Street singer Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, also known as Seyi Vibez, has spoken out about being duped when attempting to join Wizkid’s record label, Starboy Entertainment, in the early stages of his career.

He said he looked up a number when he Googled how to join Starboy Entertainment. When he called the number, he said that after paying N10,000 for the registration form, which he had done, he was barred.

This was revealed by the “Cana” hitmaker in a recent interview with Lagos’ Wazobia FM.

Vibez said,

“I remember when I was 13 years old, I wanted to sign to Starboy, I went to Google and typed, ‘How to register to Starboy record label.’ I saw one number and I called the number, the guy who picked it said I should pay for form N10,000.

“That was how I sold my phone and paid the guy N10,000 but after the payment he blocked me. He told me that he was Wizkid’s recruitment officer. I said I would come for the screening, I would perform and Wizkid would judge my performance. So I fell for it.”

He advised up-and-coming artists not to sign up for any record label online.

Recall that, Seyi Vibez, disclosed the reasons behind the common perception that he is older than his real age.

In a conversation on Apple Music’s Africa Now Radio, the 23-year-old artist clarified that the perception of him being older than his age stems from the fact that he appears to be engaged in activities beyond what is typically expected for someone of his age.

“Everyone thinks I am older than my age. Nobody thinks I’m 23. Because it seems I’m doing what I am not supposed to do at my age. I just have to keep pushing and working, so my inspiration never dies.

“I keep recording not because I want to record, but because I don’t like talking to people too much. Since I was young, I didn’t like talking to people too much.

“Whatever is on my mind is what I put in my music because that is the only way I can communicate with people. I have a lot more songs than the ones I have released.”
