How I handle stage fright – Simi

Nigerian musician and singer Simi has talked about her own battle with stage fright and how she gets over it.

Simi acknowledged that she had previously suffered from stage fright but had since learned how to cope with it.

Simi compared performing a new song for the first time to trying on a new pair of sneakers. It will take some time for her brain to adjust to the tune, which will help her get over her anxiety.

Simi revealed a video of herself practicing a song off her most recent album, “Lost and Found,” and she talked about how confidence is developed through repetition.

She wrote:

“The first few times I have to perform a new song (any song) live on stage is like trying on a new pair of shoes that needs adjustments.

“I don’t know why that is. Lol. Maybe it’s cos I have a history with pretty bad stage fright. Now I have to give my brain time to bond with the song so it can learn to disregard me and my nerves.

“Anyway this night, I kept rehearsing this song (maybe overly so), because it was my first time performing it on stage and of course the nerves came. But I have one or two more to go until I get out of the way and my brain takes over lol.”

Simi had earlier opened up on why she only listens to her husband, Adekunle Gold’s songs .

Appearing on the ‘Zero Conditions’ podcast, she explained that she only listens to Gold’s music because they are married. Simi said:

“I don’t listen to anybody’s music, the reason I listen to my husband’s songs is because I’m married to him.

“I like Post Malone’s first album ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’. love J.Cole. I don’t listen to anybody’s music. Nothing changed. I just don’t know.

“I don’t really listen to anybody’s music. The reason I’m listening to my album now is because it just came out. In few weeks, I probably won’t listen to it as much as I do now.”
