How I refused to let Iyanya sign Psquare’s record deal because I was disrespected – Ubi Franklin

Nigerian music executive, Ubi Franklin recently disclosed that PSquare (Peter and Paul Okoye) intended to sign Iyanya when he was just about to kick off his music career.

The head of Triple MG claimed that Iyanya and he were invited to the music group’s villa for a record contract by Jude Okoye, their manager, but that they instructed him to wait outside while the ‘Kukere’ crooner entered the house.

During an Adesope Olajide-hosted episode of The Afrobeats podcast, Ubi Franklin told the tale.

He said PSquare’s action bruised his ego that day and he vowed to reject the deal even if he was offered 50 million dollars for Iyanya.

He claims that when PSquare requested their email address and promised to give the contract later, he never got back to them.

According to Ubi Franklin, when Iyanya began to worry why they hadn’t heard from PSquare, he advised them to launch their own record label as it’s the only way that industry professionals would take them seriously.

The talent manager revealed that Eldee, a hip-hop celebrity, made a better offer to Iyanya around the same time, but they first preferred to sign PSquare because of the accompaniments.

Ubi said;

“We got there, Jude, Paul and Peter told me to wait outside and called Iyanya into the house. I was boiling outside. Iyanya would have gotten that deal with PSquare but the fact that they said I should wait outside, my ego was bruised.

You know what I said to them, ‘Even if I was offered $50 million, I would reject the deal.’ Guess what Eldee’s deal was actually better than theirs.”
