Hip-hop artist Ladipo Eso, better known by his stage name Ladipoe, has disclosed that he was informed he wouldn’t succeed in Nigeria when he first started making music.

The Mavin Records artist, who made this revelation in an interview, claimed that some anonymous business insiders attempted to demoralise him by disparaging his musical taste.

Ladipoe claims that they advised him to relocate if he wanted to succeed as a musician, but he disregarded their advice and as a result, all of his songs have surpassed his expectations.

The well-known rapper went on to say that while he is appreciative of his artistic progress, he is not yet content with his accomplishments.

Ladipoe said;

“All my songs have exceeded my expectations. When I first started making music, I was told that because of my style, no one would ever listen to my songs here in Nigeria and that I should try elsewhere in the world.”

“It is human nature for satisfaction to be elusive. I feel this applies twice as much to creative people, such as artistes like myself. I am grateful but not satisfied.”

In another part of the interview, Ladipoe recalled a time he got a disappointing reaction from fans during one of his performances in the early stages of his career.

He said;

“I remember once, early in my career, I came on stage with so much energy and shouted into the microphone, ‘Who is ready for some more hip-hop’?. Meanwhile, that was a time when hip-hop music was facing serious fluctuation in its appeal.

“The overwhelming response from the crowd was, ‘no’. I remember being so deflated. To make matters worse, my band started off by playing the wrong song first, which further demoralised me. It was terrible. But, I look back now and laugh. I am grateful for growth.”
