Afrobeat musician Anthony Ebuka Victor, better known by his stage name Victony, has revealed that his parents didn’t really understand his love of music until after he was involved in a vehicle accident in 2021 that left him unconscious for four days.

Considering his academic prowess, Victony disclosed that, before the accident, his family considered music to be just a hobby.

He became even more passionate about music after he entered college.

His parents watched the tremendous support he received from the music world during his recuperation, which made the accident a turning point in his life.

This led them to recognize the depth of his commitment to his music career and most importantly, give their approval for him to pursue it. Victony shared these reflections in a recent interview on Sway’s Universe, explaining:

“I used to do music as a hobby and everybody knew that I loved music but they didn’t think I was going to take it seriously. I was good at school so they never bothered about it and they never thought it would distract me from my education but when I got into the university, that was when I started to take it seriously

“They didn’t know I was taking it seriously until after the accident. When the accident happened, a lot of people came to the hospital and they wondered how it was possible. They soon began to realise that I had a community that was growing already and they gave me their blessings from that point.”
