Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed how his performance at the FIFA World Cup helped his father, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, secure a major business deal with the World Bank.
Davido said the World Cup provided more than an international platform for his music, as it also unexpectedly created an opportunity for his father to connect with the World Bank president.
According to the singer, his father had spent years trying to secure an opportunity to meet the World Bank president but had been unable to do so.
However, the situation changed after Davido performed at the World Cup.
He said that while staying at a hotel after his performance, he met the World Bank president and immediately recognised an opportunity to introduce him to his father.
Davido subsequently placed a video call to his father, allowing both men to speak directly.
According to the singer, the interaction eventually resulted in a successful business agreement, as “they made a deal.”
The revelation highlights how Davido’s international music career has created opportunities and connections extending beyond the entertainment industry.
Reacting to the revelation, ogundepo_tosin_ wrote: “I think what most people will miss here is that this goes beyond just Davido meeting the World Bank President. Because he was actively involved in his dad’s business, he already understood the need and knew his dad had been trying to connect with the World Bank. So when that opportunity came through the World Cup, he was able to recognize the moment and make the connection happen. To me, this speaks to the power of genuine involvement, bonding, and understanding what matters to the people connected to you. You never know how one relationship or one moment can become the bridge to something much bigger.”

Dr Adedeji Adeleke, founder of Pacific Holdings Limited, has built a significant power generation portfolio in Nigeria through Pacific Energy Company Limited.
The company’s assets include two major power plants acquired during Nigeria’s power sector privatisation. One, located in Ondo State, has an installed capacity of 336.8 megawatts, while another in Ogun State has a capacity of 304 megawatts, giving the two facilities a combined capacity of 640.8 megawatts.
Adeleke’s largest power project is a gas-fired plant in Ajebamidele, Ondo State, with a capacity of 1,250 megawatts and an estimated value of $2 billion.
The facility was constructed with major Chinese engineering firms, alongside General Electric (GE), which supplied the turbines.
Construction of the plant has been completed, although it is awaiting final connection to the national gas grid before commercial operations can begin.
The project is also expected to create more than 2,000 engineering jobs once fully operational.
