South African singer and songwriter, Tyla, recently opened up on the delay in the release of her much-anticipated debut album, “Tyla,” attributing it to the Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems.
Tyla, who has been working on her debut album for almost three years, revealed that Tems’ last-minute addition caused the final moments before the album’s submission to unexpectedly drag on.
Tems dropped a surprise verse on the single “NO 1” right before Tyla was about to send her project to her record company.
Recounting the pivotal moment during the interview, Tyla expressed her admiration for Tems, referring to her as the “Queen” of African music.
Due to her respect, Tyla made it a priority to include Tems’ contribution, which resulted in a little delay in the album’s release while she awaited Tems’ verse.
Even though Tems was added later than expected, Tyla remained kind to the well-known Nigerian celebrity.
She highlighted how important it was that Tems be a part of the production, expressing her love for the musician’s skill.
The 14 tracks on Tyla’s self-titled debut album, “Tyla,” which captures her journey and artistic development over the last five years, were eventually released last Friday.
