South African singer Tyla states that Tems, the singer from Nigeria, paved the way for female African artists to be recognised internationally.

Recently, the music stars collaborated on the song “No.1,” which is taken from Tyla’s self-titled album.

Tyla called Tems a “amazing” vocalist who opened doors for African female artists worldwide in a recent interview on Kiss Fresh FM.

She also conveyed her appreciation for the chance to work with her.

“Amazing. Tems is so talented. She is literally a force. I am so honoured to have worked with her. She has opened so many doors for us,” she said.

“We made such a beautiful song with such a beautiful message. It is a song for the girls and it is made by the girls.”

In 2023, Tyla revealed Tems inspires her as an African artiste.

Tems responded by politely accepting the recognition and expressing her belief that Tyla is using her music to empower young South African ladies in a similar way.

“Man, it is an honour, I am very very, 100% sure that she’s inspiring many many many many South African babe, many girls around the world as well”, she said.

Both artistes have continued to enjoy fame globally for their talents.

In 2023, Tyla gained global popularity for her single ‘Water’ which entered the top 10 in sixteen countries including the United Kingdom and United States.

‘Water’ was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years.

In February, the singer won her first Grammy Award in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘Water’.

Tems, on the other hand, won her first-ever Grammy award in 2023.

She recently announced that her debut album ‘Born in the Wild’ will be released in May.
