Nigerian-South African beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina has opened up about the difficulties she faced on a personal level while competing in pageants.
Tacha from Big Brother Naija, the host of the Big Friday Show, recently talked candidly about her struggles with identity difficulties resulting from her dual citizenship.
Chidimma said her goal to compete for the title of Miss Universe when asked why she decided to devote her time to pageantry.
“I think it’s something I started recently; however, I’ve had this dream since 2017 to become the next Miss Universe. I’m really glad I have been given the platform and the opportunity to at least try and reach that goal,” she said.
Chidimma also revealed how she managed the identity crisis,
“It has been a long journey, so hard at times. I would cry myself to sleep, questioning ‘Why me?’. I had to shift my perspective to see potential greatness emerging from these challenges.”
This interview comes after Chidimma’s elimination from the Miss South Africa competition due to accusations made by the South African Home Office of fraud and identity theft involving her mother.
After Chidimma announced that she will be competing in Miss South Africa, she received backlash in her own country.
She accepted the Silverbird Group’s invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria competition after receiving it.
