I once left show crying after audience didn’t recognize me – Fireboy

Renowned Nigerian musician Fireboy, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, describes how heartbroken he was to leave a concert crying because no one in the crowd could identify him.

He disclosed that the event took place during his initial days as a struggling artist.

Fireboy emphasised the difficult road to success in a recent interview with Billboard News, highlighting the difficulties experienced by up-and-coming musicians.

He remembered a particular show where he was supposed to perform, but the audience was too preoccupied dancing to notice him. He told in a companion that he felt invisible, and the two of them disappointedly left the location.

Fireboy claimed that the experience inspired him to make a self-promise to never accept anything less than what he was due.

He said:

“Every upcoming artiste always go through a lot of stuff.

“There was a show I went to perform and nobody even knew I was on stage or spared me a second glance. Everybody was just dancing.

“The DJ was just DJing. I felt invisible and I went back to the car with my friend crying.

“I told myself never again. I will never ask for something until I feel like I deserve it.”

He emphasised how the encounter inspired him to work towards success and recognition in his musical career.

In a different story, Fireboy shared details about his path to musical development, including the fact that he previously tried to mimic American pop sensation Beyoncé’s stage persona but was unsuccessful.

Fireboy talked about his experiences in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone, admitting that he had trouble at first trying to recreate Beyoncé’s stage shows.

Fireboy claimed that despite his best attempts, he was never able to attain the multiple Grammy winner’s level of brilliance.

Thinking back on his adventure, Fireboy revealed his resolve to improve and advance his skill.

He shared how, even while he was creating his most poignant songs, he would imagine himself on stage, channelling his dreams of playing to large crowds into his songwriting process.

Fireboy went on to emphasize the importance of personal growth and development as an artist.
