I see myself as one of Afrobeats’ greats – Rema

Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema claims that he considers himself to be among the best Afrobeats musicians.

The “Calm Down” hitmaker recently addressed his earlier claim that he was one of the top four Nigerian artists in an interview with the Rolling Stones.

The 24-year-old stressed that his confidence is a result of his diligence and commitment to his art rather than being a sign of arrogance.

He also asked why it bothers him to claim to be the greatest, pointing out that admitting the presence of other greats is much more modest.

Rema clarified his intentions by citing Kendrick Lamar’s well-known diss remark, saying that he supports Afrobeats unity rather than attempting to discredit others.

“So on ‘Heis’, I was talking a lot of s**t. It is not cocky. It is like what stops you from saying you’re the best? You can say it and stand your ground. It is even humble to say four,” he said.

“I didn’t pull down the two, I didn’t pull down the three. I just see myself as one of the greats, and it’s a problem. I’m not saying oh f**k everybody. It is different from what Kendrick said: ‘It’s just big me’. I really vouch for the unity of Afrobeats.”

In a different story, Rema revealed the dates and venues for his eagerly awaited tour across three continents.

The “Ozeba” hitmaker revealed in an Instagram post on Monday that the tour is called “HeIs,” after his second studio album.

It is anticipated that the trip, which will visit three continents—Europe, Asia, and North America—would start on April 11 and conclude on August 2.

Rema will play his first show at the Edmonton Expo Centre in Edmonton, Canada, on April 11 to begin his North American tour. After that, he will travel to Indio, California, where he will play at Coachella Weekends One and Two on April 13 and 20, respectively.

Rema’s next stop will be Mexico City, where he will perform at Cercle Odyssey on April 24. He will then head to Houston, where he will perform at the 713 Music Hall on April 27. Rema will also perform at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on April thirtieth.
