The Nigerian musician Terry G, whose real name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, has disclosed that he was a backup singer for his colleague Faze.

The “Akpako Master” said during a recent appearance on the Afrobeats Podcast that he tried out to be Faze’s backup vocalist and was chosen after persuading the singer with his “melodious” voice.

Terry G mentioned how talented he was as a vocalist and R&B performer in the past.

He added that he served Faze loyally.

“I went to audition to be Faze’s backup artiste, he got to listen to my song and fell in love with it. Then, I was a very good singer, I had a very melodious voice. No be now wey I dey craze [laughs]. I used to sing R&B. That was the moment Faze actually listened to me and fell in love with me. Then I became his backup artiste,” he recalled.

“I served Faze loyally. It was even through Faze that I met 2Face. Faze is a very good teacher. I enjoyed working with him.”

Recall that, Terry G sparked controversy with his recent bold claim that he is a secular musician who sings for the devil.

In a preview for a forthcoming episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the musician shared his opinions about secular music’s place in society and its seeming propensity to exalt the devil rather than God.

He declared:

“I am a secular musician. I sing for the devil. We [secular musicians] sing for the devil, we praise the devil. We don’t glorify God.”

He also touched upon Wizkid’s evolving music style, suggesting that it might alienate a significant portion of his Nigerian audience.

“Wizkid music no dey too relate to us. My colleagues from my set, most of us are illiterates,” he said.
