‘I started singing before I started talking’ – Oxlade

The Nigerian artist Oxlade, whose real name is Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, has revealed details about his early career in music.

Oxlade revealed in a recent podcast interview that he started singing at a very young age—even before he could speak—that his parents had informed him of this.

The singer disclosed that when he was younger, he could not create meaningful phrases and would sing more easily and quickly.

Oxlade suggested that his early experiences formed his natural propensity towards music and that this early exposure was what shaped his talent.

“I started singing before I started talking. My parents told me that I started singing before I could even talk,” he explained.

“I sang faster than catching up with talks. That was what my parents told me. I feel like that was where it [my talent] all started from.”

Recall that, Oxlade claimed that he is currently being boycotted in the Nigerian music industry.

He claims that in addition to being blackmailed by some of his senior colleagues, he is being boycotted by some gatekeepers.

Oxlade went on to say that some of his coworkers are backbiting him because they are imitating his musical style. In a recent freestyle on Glitch Africa, the artist stated:

“Many boys don dey sound like me and still many boys don dey backbit me. Why me?

“Some gatekeepers don dey boycott me. Some OGs don dey blackmail me.”
