The controversial hip hop artist Portable, also known as Habeeb Okikiola, has disclosed that prior to pursuing his musical career, he worked as a professional fashion designer.
In the premiere episode of the Brooke Bailey Danfo Series, the 30-year-old talked about his passion for tailoring and fashion.
The musician, Portable, took Bailey, the Belgian DJ, on a tour of Sango Ota, Ogun state, when he travelled to Nigeria for an interview.
Portable took her to his fashion design studio, where he claimed to have learned the trade before going into music.
He claimed that despite his widespread fame, he still works as a fashion designer and “combines” it with his music career.
“I was trained as a fashion designer. I am still a fashion designer, I am still doing it. That is what I learnt, that was my profession before I ventured into music,” he said.
“Now I combine the both but I am taking the fashion side of things slow and steady. I love fashion designing, even entertainment is connected to fashion in some ways. So when you are doing music, you have to do fashion.”
December 2021 saw the release of “Zazoo Zeh,” his popular song featuring Olamide and Poco Lee, propel him to portable hit success.
Hit songs like “All Eyes On Me,” “Clear Azaman,” “Neighbour,” and “Ogo Forever” are among the ones he has produced.
Before Olamide supported his career, Portable revealed in a new TikTok post that he used to perform at concerts for as little as two hundred naira.
Portable acknowledged Olamide’s role in changing his life and thanked him for it. Skepta, a UK rapper, recently appeared on a song called Tony Montana by Portable.
Tony Montana has unlocked many milestones in the careers of the artists who worked on the project as it earned Portable his first number-one song on the Spotify and Apple Music chart for Nigeria as well as a UK Chart debut.
Skepta and Jae 5 also earned their first number-one spot on the Spotify Top Songs Daily chart for Nigeria with the hit song as well.
