Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known by her stage name Ayra Starr, has disclosed that prior to her fame, she was a social media troll.

The 22-year-old singer also revealed that she had a page devoted to Nicki Minaj, a rapper.

She made her revelation on the Feyikemi Abudu and Jola Ayeye-co-hosted podcast I Said What I Said. As she put it:

“I had a troll page, I had a Nicki Minaj fan page before I became Ayra Starr.”

Since becoming famous, Ayra Starr has been very vocal against bullying from online trolls.

She has been repeatedly trolled over her skimpy dressing and postures. She once responded to trolls, saying her “bad postures” were due to the weight of carrying Afrobeats singlehandedly.

Recall that, Ayra Starr accomplished a monumental milestone at the 2025 MOBO Awards in Newcastle, United Kingdom.

She won two important awards: ‘Best International Act’ and ‘Best African Music Act’.

Ayra Starr’s win in the ‘Best International Act’ category is a historic moment, as she becomes the first African female musician to get this award.

Her victory in the ‘Best African Music Act’ category is also impressive, as she becomes the first female winner in 16 years.

The ‘Sabi girl’ unique sound blends Afrobeats, R&B, and pop.

The 2025 MOBO Awards also recognised other talented artists, including: Darkoo, winner of ‘Best Female Act’, Central Cee, winner of ‘Best Male Act’, 90s Baby Show, winner of ‘Best Media Personality’ and Odeal, winner of ‘Best Newcomer’
