Nigerian Afrobeats singer Bella Shmurda has shared insights into a challenging period in his career when poor financial decisions nearly led him to bankruptcy.

In a recent interview with Nigerian YouTuber Korty EO, the artiste said the excitement of sudden fame pushed him into excessive spending and misplaced priorities.

“I used to have a lot of money but I rushed things. I wish I was wise then,” he confessed, reflecting on how quickly he exhausted his earnings.

Bella explained that he often indulged in unnecessary purchases to maintain a lavish lifestyle. “I was just buying things extravagantly, things I eventually had no need for,” he said.

He also noted that trying to accommodate a large number of friends added to his financial strain. “I was accommodating up to ten of my friends back then and we were all receiving female visitors,” he revealed. “I bought three cars at once just so that my friends would go out with me in convoy.”

Summing up that period, Bella admitted plainly: “I was reckless.”

The experience has since reshaped his approach to money. He said he now handles finances with greater caution and awareness. “At this point, as I am getting new money, I have to think about every move I want to take,” he added.
