Nigerian artist Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, better known as Joeboy, has said that he was unprepared for success when he rose to prominence.
Three months after the publication of his first hit song, “Baby,” he stated he was taken aback to see it become an international hit.
He claimed that when he first rose to fame, he had no idea that anyone would ever recognise him.
Joeboy stated in an interview with the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast that his rise to stardom was unexpected and that he had to leave his area in order to adjust to his new position.
The singer said: “I wasn’t ready when ‘Baby’ blew. I had to adapt to get used to fame. It was so sudden. I dropped the song [‘Baby’] in March [2019], and by June I was already doing shows in countries I thought they don’t listen to Nigerian music. Countries like Tanzania, and Uganda. In three months!”
