Actress Toyin Abraham has sworn never to make political pronouncements again after receiving a barrage of hate on social media.

Abraham publicly backed Bola Tinubu, a presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 elections.

“I love Asiwaju and I am speaking for myself. I love him and I will vote for him because of the things he has done for my industry,” she said.

However, several Nigerians reacted negatively to her choice of candidate on social media. The actress defended herself by claiming she didn’t get “any money” to back Tinubu.

Tinubu took the oath of office as Nigeria’s 16th president on May 29, 2023. Abraham expressed her continued support for the president in an open letter she penned after his inauguration.

Abraham was reassured last week by Tinubu’s son Seyi that he would be as devoted to her as she is to him.

On Tuesday, though, the actress was subjected to more abuse as an X user asked if she would ever reveal the president’s plans to the whole public.

“Maybe one day Toyin Abraham will divulge the plans Bola Tinubu shared with her to the public,” the user asked.

“I strongly believe we deserve to hear. Thank u @toyin_abraham1.”

In her response, Abraham said she was “promised good governance and happiness” by the present administration.

“You asked me in a polite way so I will definitely answer you, offcourse I was told n promised good governance n happiness for everyone and wish I believe. If things didn’t go well why do I have to be the one to suffer for it because i remember I voted Jonathan and I was bullied but I didn’t put blame on anyone after everyone choose buhari. So please why would they be cursing n trolling me everytime,” she wrote.

The user then asked: “Thank you for your prompt response. Do you believe he has failed at the moment in governance or not?”

In her reply, Abraham, while dodging the question, said she will never divulge her political affiliation in public again.

“I have faced my life and career cos I am not a politician and I’m not in government, I have learnt my lesson never ever to be open with my choice again,” the actress wrote.

Some users also took to the microblogging platform to hurl abuses at the actress; some of which she responded immediately.
