British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed the unexpected source of inspiration for his number-one smash song, “Shape Of You.”
Ed Sheeran revealed that the song’s inspiration was the artist Rihanna from Barbados.
As Sheeran delves into the creative process behind “Shape Of You,” which captured audiences’ attention following its release on January 6th, 2017, the discovery was made.
Sheeran acknowledged that while writing the song’s melody and lyrics, Rihanna was the main person he had in mind.
“Rihanna is genre-less, she can do anything. She’s the grail for songwriters. When I wrote Shape Of You, the person I was writing in my mind for was Rihanna,” Sheeran said.
“Shape Of You” garnered widespread acclaim and commercial success, earning Ed Sheeran the prestigious Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
