Nigerian actress Kehinde Bankole, who recently won the Best Lead Actress Award at the 10th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for her part in the film ‘Adire’, has revealed her wish to win an Academy Award (Oscar).

She stated to Saturday Beats:

“I will like an Oscar nomination. Every actor should actually want to get international exposure and opportunities. In Africa, obviously, we are really working hard. If we can get more international recognition, why not? We are gradually getting there on our own though.”

In addition, Bankole expressed her gratitude for receiving the “Best Lead Actress” award and acknowledged that it has given her an obligation to keep pushing herself.

On why she appreciated her colleagues, such as Yvonne Jegede, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, who also starred in the movie, the actress said:

“I appreciated my other colleagues, such as Yvonne Jegede, Funlola Aofiyebi Raimi and Ifeanyi Kalu, who starred in the movie, because it was a team work, and without the story, everyone cannot perform.”

Still on the win, Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi couldn’t withhold her happiness for her colleague and long-time friend, Kehinde Bankole, who bagged an award at the AMVCA ceremony.

Recall at the 10th edition of the award ceremony, Kehinde Bankole beat other contending nominees to win the Best Lead Actress for her phenomenal role in Adire. This would be the second time the movie star has won the Best Actress title as she first won it in 2015.

In a video captured online after the award ceremony, Toyin Abraham was seen hailing Kehinde Bankole on her win. She declared the movie star the best actress in Africa and expressed pride in her. The video captured Kehinde in the centre as Toyin strolled around her, singing her praises.
