American singer Jordan Adetunji has explained why he chose to use his real surname as his stage name.

In a recent chat with *The Dotty Show*, the ‘Kehlani’ hitmaker revealed that keeping his surname was his way of honoring his Nigerian heritage.

He recalled that at the start of his music career, several people suggested he change it, arguing it wasn’t suitable for a stage name, but he chose to stick with it.

He urged fans who can’t pronounce his last name to learn how to do so, stressing that he will never change his name.

“I keep the name [my surname] for a reason. I remember when I first came into the game everyone was telling me you need to change your surname that it doesn’t sound like an artist’s name. And I was like why can Justin Bieber keep his? I’m a big fan of Justin Bieber,” he stated.

The singer added, “I am proud to be Nigeria, why am I gonna hide it? You’ve got to learn how to pronounce it.”
