Nigerian singer and songwriter Oxlade has expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening situation, becoming the latest entertainer to speak out about the country’s challenges.

In a recent post on his X account, the singer, known for his hit song ‘Away’, reflected on the deaths recorded during the 2020 Lekki tollgate massacre, despite saying activism was never his calling.

He also questioned whether Nigeria still had hope amid the country’s prevailing circumstances.

“Activism was never my calling. But when we stood up to lend our voices the government responded with bullets. We’re still under that same system by the way. Some times I question if there’s really hope for this country,” he wrote.

Oxlade’s comments come amid growing concerns expressed by celebrities over Nigeria’s economic difficulties and security challenges.

Actor Kunle Remi recently criticised the country’s worsening economic conditions, highlighting rising petrol prices and their impact on businesses and individuals.

Comedian Koffi also accused bloggers of deliberately diverting public attention from pressing national concerns, including increasing insecurity.

Similarly, actress Sunshine Rosman voiced her frustration over Nigeria’s economic struggles and deteriorating security, while questioning the level of national consciousness among Nigerians.
