The renowned Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has disclosed that he lost three wives in different circumstances.
The 71-year-old filmmaker confirmed in a recent interview with the Honest Bunch podcast that, contrary to popular belief, he did not marry four wives simultaneously.
According to Kosoko, he had two wives at first, but they both died. He claimed that after that, he got married again and had two more wives before losing one.
The actor made it clear that while he does not support polygamy, he considers himself lucky that all of his wives worked together.
“My wives died under different circumstances. I have lost three wives. Yes, I am still with one wife and I hope I will not lose her by God’s grace,” he said.
“I lost three wives. But there is no doubt about it, losing a person, especially your wife, you know what it means.
“I didn’t have four wives at the same time. Don’t get it wrong because people are not getting it. I had two, I lost them. Then I married another two, then lost one.
“I am not supporting polygamy. Not everybody can be this lucky. Why would I say I’m lucky when I even lost my wives? But all my wives cooperated with each other.
“The truth is that whatever you have, try as much as possible to show love at all times.”
Kosoko lost two wives under similar circumstances within a period of 11 months.
Between October 1992 and November 1993, his first wife, who is the mother of Sola, his actress daughter, and his second wife, died as a result of complications arising from childbirth.
He then married Henrietta, who passed away in 2016, and Kareemat, his fourth and now only wife.
