The family of Jimi Solanke, a veteran Nigerian actor, playwright, folk singer, and songwriter, will be buried on Friday, April 5, in a private cemetery.
His relatives verified the plans for his burial on Tuesday.
The Methodist Church Nigeria in Ipara-Remo, Ogun State, will host the funeral service.
At the age of 81, Solanke passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024.
On Monday, April 1, 2024, a choral concert at Ibudo Asa, Ipara Remo, will kick off the week-long events. In addition, there will be candlelight processions at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and Ipara-Remo, Ogun State, as well as a night of tribute at Freedom Park, Lagos.
On Saturday, April 6, there will be cultural and masquerade displays, among other programmes.
The burial events will end on April 7, 2024, with a thanksgiving service.
Late Chief Jimi Solanke who was indigenous to Ogun State, was born on July 4, 1942, in Ipara Remo. He was a pioneer member of the Orisun Theatre Group, founded by the renowned Wole Soyinka, in 1961.
He was involved in epic plays such as “Death and the King’s Horseman,” “Kurunmi,” “Kongi’s Harvest,” “The Divorce,” and “Ovaramwen Nogbaisi.”
Solanke was active in the entertainment and arts industry for seven decades. He was a popular television face in the 80s.
