Kanye West sued for alleged discrimination against black staff

Controversial American rapper Kanye West has been sued for alleged anti-black treatment.

In a recent complaint, Benjamin Deshon Provo, a former worker of the rapper at Donda Academy, claims that West fired him and chastised black employees for not cutting his dreadlocks.

In the case filed in Los Angeles, Provo, a security guard at Donda Academy since 2021, stated that he experienced “emotional distress” as a result of West’s actions, including allegedly being fired for refusing to trim his hair.

He stated that because he is a Muslim, he declined when West instructed his employees to “shave your heads.”

Additionally, Provo asserted that white employees received $5 more in pay per hour than black ones.

In April 2023, former Donda Academy instructor Cecilia Hailey filed a lawsuit, alleging that West had prohibited literature regarding Black history from the school. The allegation included works about figures such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. The court date for such lawsuit is now scheduled for April 2025.

Provo is seeking damages for alleged discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, labor code violations, and other claims.
