Maverick musician Charles Oputa, better known by his stage as Charly Boy, has advised Nigerian celebrities to refrain from making their personal life public.
In a recent appearance with TVC, he responded to the marriage crisis of Annie Idibia and 2baba, a Nigerian power couple, by offering the advice.
The septuagenarian boasted that if he were to divorce his wife, no one would know. In his own words:
“I feel sorry for the couple [2Face and Annie Idibia]. It’s unfortunate. But my advice would be, can we just keep our business private, away from the public?
“Social media has changed a lot but it’s up to the people, too. I’m not talking from a saintly perspective. I have had quarrels with my partner but we settle in the room privately.
“You don’t bring it outside to the public to settle. I think that’s wrong because if I were to stop living with my wife today, nobody would know about. I won’t make noise about it.”
In a similar story, OAP Toolz criticised singer 2Face for announcing his divorce from his wife Annie in public.
In a recent episode of her podcast, “Off Air,” Toolz said that the couple should have handled the divorce in private.
She also said the timing was also incorrect because Annie was already receiving criticism for her appearance on the Young, Famous & African reality show.
There is a lot that goes on in marriages. They [2face and Annie] have had very public ups and downs. But I just feel that this is something they could have handled privately, especially with what was going on with Annie at that point.
“It didn’t need to come out now. People get divorced privately all the time. Everybody knows that Annie loves 2Face very much. It quite sad for a lot of people because when you think about there love journey, everybody wanted a happy-ever-after for her but life happened.
“I feel like somebody you got married to, at some point, I imagined you loved, mother of your children, everything, when she’s going through something really public and people are attacking her, it’s not nice to just come and announced that you’re divorcing her that same period.”
