Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has rejected Eniola Badmus’ public apology, describing it as “fake”.
Bakare shared the two-word response, “fake apology”, in an Instagram post on Tuesday, hours after Badmus apologised for her reaction to Bakare’s name during a recent interview.
The disagreement followed a video that circulated online showing Badmus appearing to shrug and change her facial expression when Isbae U, the interview host, mentioned Bakare among his favourite actresses.
Bakare reacted angrily, describing Badmus as a “nuisance” and accusing her of repeatedly damaging her reputation in public.
“Nuisance ni lady yi sha! Must you always damage my character publicly? Several times I have warned you to stop, but since you have decided to bring me down at all costs, you will surely hear from me,” she wrote on Instagram.
She also accused Badmus of being ungrateful, alleging that she had helped the actress advance in her career.
“See your facial expressions at the mention of your biggest benefactor’s name? Omo ale. That helped you to grow in life. Honestly, you are indeed an ingrate, and I won’t let this slide,” Bakare said.
Badmus subsequently acknowledged that her reaction might have appeared dismissive and apologised to her colleague.
“On reflection, I realise my reaction when Laide Bakare’s name was mentioned during my recent interview could have come across as dismissive, and for that, I sincerely apologise,” she had written.
“Laide, whatever our differences, I choose peace and I genuinely wish you well.
“We’re all growing, learning and becoming better versions of ourselves. Sometimes maturity is simply knowing when to let go and move forward.
“Joo maa binu. No negativity. No grudges. Let love lead and peace reigns.”
