Members of the Ators Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Abia State chapter have pleaded with the organization’s national leadership to permit performers to live in peace.
The AGN members claimed that Emeka Rollas, the organization’s national president, has been creating crises in the Abia AGN. They made this demand on Wednesday during their monthly meeting in Umuahia.
The actors, who included Chukwuemeka Onyekwere, the Public Relations Officer of Abia AGN, Nathaniel Nwoko, and Daniel Egwu, expressed their displeasure, pointing out that Mr. David Amalaha, who was legitimately elected as the Chairman of Abia State in May 2023, has not received recognition from AGN President Emeka Rollas.
Instead, they asserted that despite the existence of a validly elected executive headed by David Amalaha, the President appointed Dorris Ogala as the acting Chairman of the Abia AGN executive.
The Abia actors claimed that the National President had been inciting a number of crises and intimidating actors by declaring certain AGN members to be Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in a petition to the Zone 9 Police Command. They further claimed that a few actors in the Abia chapter had also been disclaimed by a media outlet.7
In addition to this, the players stated that despite their lifelong contributions to the growth of the film industry, the AGN National office had failed to pay the relatives of numerous deceased Abia State actors.
The actors encouraged the National body of the AGN to let the court make the decision on the subject, claiming that the David Amalaha-led executive had headed to the High Court, Umuahia, to preserve their fundamental human rights.
They promised to obey whatever ruling the court may give.
“We are here to tell the world that the problem in AGN in the state was created by the National office, including the President, Emeka Rollas.
“Let them stop creating parallel groups to distract the good works the Chairman is doing here”, they demanded.
