Nigerian actress and producer, Abimbola Craig has disclosed her reasons for not getting married at the age of 38.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Abimbola Craig expressed her belief that “marriage is a scam.”
The skilled actress criticised traditional marital roles in which women are generally tasked with home administration and catering to their partners, using the term “Mrs.” as shorthand for “Master’s in Residential Servicing.”
Abimbola Craig also explained that she values a spouse who has self-awareness or purpose, which is why she has chosen to stay single rather than because she is against marriage. According to Abimbola Craig:
“All marriage is a scam. When I was small, my mum always told me marriage is an institution. She said when they call you ‘Mrs,’ it stands for ‘Master’s in Residential Servicing’.”
“I am not married, not because I do not want to be married, but if you are a man who does not know who he is, you cannot be with me.”
In a different story, Abimbola Craig opened up about the arduous procedures she had to go following brain surgery in 2014, stating that she genuinely thought she wouldn’t make it.
She discussed her experience when the doctors determined that she needed surgery to remove a brain tumour in a recent YouTube video.
But the tumor’s excision brought up another problem. Craig recognised she was having an adverse reaction to the painkillers not long after the treatment. Says she:
“Four days after the surgery I started feeling weird but I couldn’t explain what it was that was wrong with me. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep and I also started losing my appetite and started losing weight.
I thought maybe it was the strong pain medication I was on.”
She discovered that she was having sadness, hallucinations, and insomnia after researching the medication’s negative effects online. She was also allowed to switch to a less potent painkiller after calling the hospital, but by then she had already shed ten kilogrammes.
