Prominent activist Deji Adeyanju has confirmed that singer and social media personality Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, who was reported missing, is currently in police custody in Abuja.
Adeyanju, who is also a lawyer, disclosed that Speed Darlington, also called Akpi, was arrested in Lagos last Friday and later transferred to Abuja, where he has remained in detention.
He stated that the arrest was linked to a formal complaint filed by Grammy Award-winning artist Burna Boy, although he did not provide specific details of the petition.
Adeyanju shared this information in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.
He wrote, “We just spent the last 30mins with Speed Darlington and he narrated how he was arrested in Lagos Friday last week, moved around and eventually brought to Abuja and has been in detention since then. Petition against him was written by Burna Boy, we can confirm.”
Earlier, a social media influencer, Constance Nwogu, raised an alarm regarding the alleged disappearance of Speed Darlington.
In a message shared on social media on Monday, Nwogu expressed concern over the artist’s whereabouts, noting that he has been unreachable for three days.
“It has come to our notice that our man Speeddarlington (Akpi) has been missing for days now (three days now),” Nwogu wrote via her Instagram page.
She pointed out that the last post on Speeddarlington’s social media page was made three days ago, a departure from his usual frequent online activities.
Checks from our correspondent revealed that Speeddarlington’s last post on his YouTube page was three days ago, October 4, while his last post on Instagram was close to a month ago, September 8, although, he is often used to going live on Instagram.
“Up till now, no one has heard from him. We have all tried to reach him, but to no avail,” she added, emphasising the urgency of the situation.
Although there is no confirmed reason for Speed Darlington’s sudden disappearance, Nwogu suggested it “could possibly be related to a video he may have made earlier.”
In that video, Speed Darlington questioned the legitimacy of Burna Boy’s Grammy award and allegedly connected Burna Boy to the controversial musician Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy or Puff Daddy.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Burna Boy posted on X, “Who’s missing?” This message surfaced shortly after reports of Speed Darlington’s disappearance.
However, there are no clear indications regarding whom Burna Boy might be referring to.
In response, Nwogu encouraged the public to share any information that could help locate the missing entertainer.
“Please, this is important. If there is any information anybody has concerning this, please reach out to me or do not hesitate to put it out, please,” she added.
She assured followers that updates would be provided as new information becomes available.
“We would as well keep everyone posted if we get something. Thank you very much,” Nwogu said
The police is yet to release any information as of press time.
