Nigerian actor Yomi Fabiyi has called for a “peaceful” protest to demand justice for the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Mohbad, who was signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died on September 12, 2023, under unexplained circumstances. The next day, he was buried.
His body was excavated on September 21 for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and the results showed nothing noteworthy that would have contributed to his demise.
The antihistamine diphenhydramine was found in the toxicology report, however not at a level that would be deemed lethal.
Mohbad’s family rejected the results and demanded an independent investigation.
Aloba legal team member Monisola Odumosu states that a two-phase autopsy is presently under progress, with the first phase having been finished and the second entailing toxicology and histology tests.
In a Tuesday Instagram post, Fabiyi pleaded with the public to participate in the coroner’s inquest and forthcoming judicial proceedings in a calm manner.
In order to further demand justice, he also suggested that if no progress is made, a nonviolent demonstration be planned for the first anniversary of Mohbad’s passing.
“Let’s storm the court peacefully and attend the next coroner inquest and protest to register our demands on this case. If nothing tangible is seen or heard, we focus on the day of the one-year anniversary,” he wrote.
