Mohbad’s father inspects singer’s remains months after exhumation

The family of the deceased singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad, pays a visit to the morgue where their son’s remains have been stored since the exhumation.

This was contained in a statement sent to newsmen on Thursday

Signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, the statement emphasized the necessity of the visit in response to rumors suggesting that the government was purportedly obstructing access to the morgue.

Odumosu clarified that the visitation proceeded without any hindrance from any party.

“The Aloba family and their legal team were at the morgue last Friday to see the remains of the late singer–Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba.

“Contrary to the fake news that the family of the late singer, (IlerioluwaOladimeji Aloba’s family), were not allowed to see his body at the morgue, the legal team and his family sighted the corpse last Friday,” Odumosu disclosed in the statement.

She said that the members of the visiting team included herself, Mr. Gurexy, the father of Mohbad, who was a supporter of the advocacy group Justice for Mohbad, Emmanuel Oroko, Esq., and herself, who was representing the new legal practice that the family of the deceased had engaged.

According to Odumosu, the morgue director clarified that the family did not need to apply for or receive formal permission from the mortuary administration in order to inspect the late singer’s body.

At the age of 27, Mohbad passed away on September 12; the circumstances of his passing sparked debates on social media.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s Marlian Music record label, departed the label in February 2022.

A 13-person special investigation team was established by the Lagos State Police Command on September 18, 2023, to look into the death.

Along with other others, his killing resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, commonly known as Sam Larry.

On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was dug up for an autopsy to determine the cause of his passing.

In September 2023, Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the state police, tweeted that a “autopsy has been concluded” and the authorities were “awaiting result.”
