Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has revealed a memory from the past in which she considers the significant impact her mother had on her life.

During the Tuesday fragrance line introduction, the businesswoman showered her mother with compliments, acknowledging her role in shaping her current self.

Toke claims that she was perpetually at the bottom of her class and that she once suffered the worst beating of her life after trying to play the smarts by making changes to her report card.

She said that her mother was the only person who had faith in her and would wake her up in the middle of the night pleading with her to read anytime she was feeling low and ashamed.

Now, her story has changed as she has gone from being at the bottom of the class to launching her own business.

“Another incident that shaped my life, I was always at the bottom of my class. There was this time we were like 52 in the class, and I came 52, and a part of me thought I was smart, and I cleaned the 5 and left the 2. I was going home to show my parents that finally, after being bottom of the class, I came second, and when they looked at the report card, they flogged me.

“She didn’t spare my behind because she was frustrated. I remember when I was feeling ashamed and down, this was the same woman who believed in me and would wake me in the night, telling me to read. Mummy, I know I came last in class, but today, Mummy, I launched a perfume line”.

Her mother, who was present, almost broke down in tears as she expresses pride in her daughter.

She appreciated God that her efforts weren’t in vain over her daughter as she credited everything to God.

“I thank God my efforts were not in vain; it’s the Lord’s doing”.
