Naira abuse: Why Bobrisky was imprisoned but Cubana Chief Priest wasn’t – Timi Agbaje

Nigerian content creator Timi Agbaje has provided a detailed explanation for why socialite Cubana Chief Priest, who was accused of the same crime as crossdresser Bobrisky, was granted release while she was jailed.

Bobrisky admitted to abusing the Naira and was sentenced to six months in prison without the possibility of a fine by a Federal High Court in Lagos state last week.

On Wednesday, April 17, however, when Cubana Chief Priest entered a not guilty plea to Naira abuse, the same court granted him N10 million in bail.

Timi Agbaje, a law graduate, explained that Bobrisky’s guilty plea contrasted with Cubana Chief Priest’s not, which is why the court reached different decisions.

He claimed that Bobrisky’s plea left him with two plausible outcomes in his case: either he pays a fine or goes to jail.

On the other side, Cubana Chief Priest was granted bail because, even though he entered a not guilty plea, the EFCC cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he misused Nigerian currency.

Timi Agbaje added, “The defence attorney may claim that the money being sprayed in the video—which the EFCC has—isn’t actual legal tender.”
