New single: Asa drags Joeboy to court over alleged copyright infringement, demands N300m in damages

In relation to Joeboy’s recently released song, “Contour,” singer Bukola Elemide, popularly known as Asa, has served him with a copyright infringement notice.

According to the notification, which Joeboy posted on his Instagram account on Monday, Asa requested N300 million and issued a 24-hour deadline for the song to be taken down from all digital streaming services.

In addition, as stated in the notification, the singer requested a written apology and a 60% publishing split on the song through her management.

The notice dated September 30 read in part, ”It has been brought to our attention that your newly released song, Contour (the “Song”), infringes on the copyright of our Client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the “Composition”) which she created in a recording session, which took place on 22 September 2020, with the producer of the Song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (p.k.a Tempoe) in attendance.

“We, hereby, demand that you immediately remove the Song from all DSPs and any other platforms within twenty-four (24) hours of your receipt of this letter, with a written apology issued to our Client as well as halt any additional infringements of our Composition, including any other infringements.”

On his Instagram account, Joeboy responded to the suit by saying that he seemed to attract attention because he was quiet.

He also urged Asa’s management to file a lawsuit and emphasized that the 24-hour notice had already passed.

He said, “Cos I day always do love and light you think say I be soft meat. You said I have 24 hours, it’s been 48 hours, do something.”

Additionally, Tempoe reposted Joeboy’s content on his Instagram story.
