Organizers of the highly anticipated and eagerly awaited Nigeria Comedy Awards (NCA) have announced the nominees for the 2023 event, which celebrates the best of Nigeria’s thriving comedy scene.
The full list of nominees for the Nigeria Comedy Awards, available on their Instagram page (@NigeriaComedyAwards), includes individuals and works from across the Nigerian comedy industry, including stand-up comedy, TV series, radio, online skits, movies, acting, animation, and more.
The list comprises Basketmouth, Mercy Johnson, Tomama, Broda Shaggi, Real Warri Pikin, Kenny Blaq, Taaooma, Sabinus, Battle on Bukka Street, Mr Macaroni, Bovi, My Flatmates, Helen Paul, Passport, Ajebo, Success, Jude OC, Bimbo Ademoye ,Yaw, Kiriku, Powski, Solomon VI, Dada Adekola, The Johnsons, Josh2Funny and Charles Inojie, among others.
The Awards’ Co-Executive Producer, Wole Adenuga, stated, “as the event draws nearer, we are well-aware of the high level of anticipation by nominees, as well as their fans across Nigeria and worldwide. We are working intensively with Indomie Noodles, Airtel, Malta Guinness, Peak Milk, Fanta, and other brands who have partnered with us to make the event a great success.”
“One of the highlights of the night would be the ‘Revelation of the Year’ Category, which has Layi Wasabi and Soso as nominees, with the winner receiving a cash prize of N1,000,000 in addition to the plaque which other winners would be receiving,” he added.
As outlined by Adenuga, the inaugural awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 24th, at the Eko Conference Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event anticipates the physical presence of 1,000 attendees, while millions worldwide are set to tune in via wapTV (DStv 262, StarTimes 116, GOtv 129, FreeTV 751, Play 275, and MyTV), R2TV (GOtv 145), RaveTV (GOtv 146, FreeTV 745), and various other stations.
The awards receive backing from Filmhouse Cinemas, AIT Network, Royal Roots TV, Pop Central, African Movie Channel, Rave TV, Royal Roots Cinemas, Smooth 98.1FM, Goldmyne TV, Kennis 104.1FM, Royal Roots 107.1FM, and various other media organizations.
Adenuga emphasized that the organizing team, consisting of Event Producer Bunmi Davies, Project Consultant Debbie Odutayo from Executive Director of Royal Roots Communication Network, along with Wale Adenuga Jnr. and Wole Adenuga, Managing Director of wapTV as Executive Producers from Wale Adenuga Productions, ensures that this grand occasion will become an annual affair, celebrating excellence in Nigeria’s thriving comedy sector.
“‘The Revelation of the Year’, a category which spotlights and honours an exceptional newcomer in the nation’s diverse comedy industry, would be rewarded with N1,000,000 cash and a plaque,” Adenuga added.
