Nigerians not supportive of female musicians – Don Jazzy

Veteran record producer and music executive Don Jazzy has raised worry over Nigeria’s lack of support for female performers.

The head of Mavin Records bemoaned the fact that, despite the women’s hard work, Nigerians don’t listen to female musicians as much as their male counterparts.

A netizen with the X handle @Lahon199x highlighted this issue, noting that Nigerian female artists have a better chance of becoming global A-listers than achieving similar status in Nigeria.

The user wrote:

“Nigerians in general are still not receptive to Female music

“You will see female dominating or at least equal to the men in other countries’ music industry

“But In Nigeria?..Our female artistes have more chances of being A-list globally than being A-list in Nigeria.”

Reposting this tweet, Don Jazzy commented, “And it’s so sad. The women put in soooo much work.”

In a different story, Don Jazzy recently advised fans on how to deal with critics.

He emphasised that when they were struggling, critics didn’t care about them, so he urged them not to let criticism upset them once they achieved their goals.

He claims it is a type of diversion to pay heed to critics.

On his X handle on Saturday, May 18, Don Jazzy wrote:

“Nobody gives a f*ck about you when you are suffering and grinding. If you give a f*ck about what people think about you when you make it, then you didn’t learn shit in the come-up and will be back suffering in no time.”

“Worrying about what people think about you in your grinding phase and your made phase is a distraction.”
