The Nigerian singer Paul Okoye also known as Rudeboy has opened out about the strict procedures he puts in place for hiring new artists to sign to his record company, Fire Department Inc.
Rudeboy claimed during an Instagram Live session that certain celebrities who become well-known start to feel entitled.
According to him, artists who wish to sign with his label must accept his conditions, which include giving assurances such as real estate and getting their parents to co-sign a legally binding agreement.
He also said that any musician found to be using marijuana would be fined N10 million.
“Some people just believe say they don big pass record label. So I will tell you my demands now. You go bring landed properties, your parents go sign. The day I catch you dey smoke one thing as my artiste, minus N10 million. That is why if you continue asking me when I am going to sign artistes I will tell you I do not know,” he said.
Rudeboy founded Fire Department Inc. in 2019, two years after the disbandment of Psquare, the renowned group he formed with his identical twin brother Peter Okoye.
Their reunion took place in November 2021. Their reconciliation did not last long, though.
Rudeboy has acknowledged that there has been additional repercussions and claimed that his brother was behind his detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Peter responded to his brother’s attempt to “discredit all my efforts” towards Psquare on Monday by asking why.
