Nollywood actress, Regina Chukwu has revealed that she lost her husband to tuberculosis three years into their marriage.

Chukwu said that she was married in her early 20s while still a student in an interview with her coworker Biola Bayo.

She claimed that soon after completing secondary school, she met her late husband, who was from Anambra.

Chukwu, who was raised in Lagos’ Iyana-Ipaja neighbourhood, claimed that her husband’s internal bleeding from a previous injury caused him to get tuberculosis.

According to the actress, his health worsened immediately after the birth of their second kid.

The 45-year-old movie diva disclosed that she went with him to his hamlet to try to save him, where he was treated at a nearby medical facility.

She said at one point, her husband, overwhelmed by pain, begged her to give him a “death injection”.

The Enugu-born actress revealed that despite the family’s efforts, he passed away at 28 years old.

“When my husband’s sickness got worse, I decided to take him to his village, and when his family saw him, they couldn’t believe how badly the sickness had affected him. His parents invited pastors and herbalists to give him some treatment.

“My husband begged me to find him a doctor who would inject him with poison so that he could die. He said the pain was too much for him to bear and that he couldn’t endure it any longer.”

“…I saw practically my father-in-law dragging him. He was dragging him with his two hands. He just said, ‘he is dead’. I was furious. I woke up the next day because I had fainted. I could not say goodbye to him,” she said.

“He was already buried. So, when we finished the burial and everything, his sister said, there is no need for me to return to Lagos. They would rent an apartment or start a business for me in Enugu city.”
