There was fresh drama as Pastor Chris Okafor publicly withdrew the apology he previously offered to Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, shedding light on the circumstances that led to it.
It will be recalled that the clergyman apologised to Ogala in December 2025, going on his knees during a sermon in a move that drew widespread attention.
During a recent church service, Okafor declared that he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him by the actress. He explained that his earlier apology was not an admission of guilt but a step taken to shield spiritual leaders who supported him throughout the controversy.
“I withdraw that, there was no single apology because I cannot apologize for what I don’t know”, he firmly stated.
Background to the dispute
The controversy began after Ogala accused the cleric of reneging on a promise to marry her, sharing explicit content, and causing her emotional trauma.
Subsequently, Ogala instituted a lawsuit against Pastor Chris Okafor, demanding ₦1 billion in damages for an alleged breach of promise.
According to court filings, she claimed that Okafor had assured her of marriage, introduced her to his family, and included her in family functions before eventually marrying another woman, Pearl Okafor.
The suit further alleged that the cleric circulated her private photographs without consent and that she entrusted him with ₦45 million, which he reportedly used without her authorisation.
