Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey has been named this year’s Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine.
Demsey gained notoriety for playing Doctor Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on “Grey’s Anatomy,” one of the greatest TV series ever.
In addition, he starred in other Hollywood classics including “Made of Honour” and “Enchanted.”
The 57-year-old actor claimed to have been “shocked” to learn of the news, which debuted on Tuesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he said. “I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Demsey has spent 24 years as the wife of beauty tycoon and professional makeup artist Jillian Fink. Talula, 21, and the twins Sullivan and Darby, 16, are the couple’s three children.
The philanthropist thanked People for the title in an interview, saying it provides him a platform to have a good impact. In memory of his mother, Dempsey founded the Dempsey Center, a charity that provides assistance to cancer sufferers.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly, my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” he said.
In 2005 and 2006, he was dubbed the second Sexist Man Alive. Dempsey, who at last topped the list this year, now stands with other Hollywood beauties like Michael B. Jordan, Paul Rudd, Chris Evans from Marvel, and a host of others.
