The Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye, has threatened to take legal action against a social media user over remarks made about his late mother, Josephine Okoye.
The dispute began after the user shared a photo of Josephine Okoye on X alongside an accusatory caption.
The post alleged that the singer’s mother “fought bitterly” to prevent him from marrying “a Yoruba woman”.
In a strongly worded response, Okoye described the claim as “unacceptable and deeply hurtful.”
He demanded that the post be removed and warned of legal consequences if the user failed to comply.
“This post about my late mother is unacceptable and deeply hurtful,” he wrote.
“You’ve crossed the line. Take it down and apologise immediately, or I will take legal action. This madness on social media must stop.”
Okoye is one half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, alongside his twin brother Paul Okoye, and remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s music industry.
He married Lola Omotayo in 2013 after seven years of dating.
His mother passed away in 2012 following heart surgery in a hospital in India.
