Veteran American comic actor and musician, Martin Mull, is dead.
Mull reportedly passed away on Thursday at the age of 80 at his Los Angeles residence.
Wendy Mull, the actor’s wife, confirmed his passing on Friday, saying he passed away following a protracted illness.
Maggie Mull, a TV writer and comic artist, who is also the actor’s daughter, confirmed his passing on Instagram.
She wrote,
“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness,” she wrote.
“He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny.
“My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”
Martin Mull’s co-star in the series ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch,’ Melissa Joan Hart while paying tribute to him on Instagram, described him as “a wonderful man who I am better for knowing.”
Mull gained widespread attention in the 1970s in shows such as ‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’ and ‘Fernwood 2-Night,’ and remained active in television and film over the next half-century.
Born in 1943, Mull was celebrated not only for his acting but also for his musical comedy and painting.
He gained fame in the 1970s with roles in the TV series ‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’ and its spinoff ‘Fernwood 2 Night’.
Before embarking on his film career, Mull was also the practice squad kicker for the Cleveland Browns, a professional football team based in Cleveland.
Mull is survived by his wife Wendy Mull and their daughter Maggie.
