Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, made a powerful return to his roots with a special homage that shook the very foundation of Benin’s cultural pride.

The superstar’s visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, sent waves of admiration reverberating through the city.

Arriving in his beloved hometown of Benin, Edo State, just days before his much-awaited homecoming concert, Rema was on a mission to reconnect with his heritage and honor those who have paved the way before him.

The announcement of the event, which is scheduled for August 30 at the renowned Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in July sparked enthusiasm across the country. Rema’s journey celebrated the country that shaped him more than simply his music, in an act of profound appreciation and cultural homage.

In an attempt to express his thanks to the dignitaries who have helped him so rapidly rise to prominence, he visited with Edo State Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and socialised with the city’s elite.

But the real pinnacle of his homecoming was his visit to the palace of the Oba of Benin, where Rema took his acts of reverence to new heights. With a deep bow, he knelt before the Oba, paying the utmost respect to the revered monarch, a gesture that spoke volumes of his connection to his cultural roots.

With the monarch’s blessing, Rema then made a bold request—to perform his hit song in the sacred halls of the palace.

Granted permission, the young star launched into an a cappella rendition of his chart-topping hit, his voice ringing out clear and strong.

The atmosphere was electrified as everyone in the room, from the royal court to the guests, joined him in singing along, their voices blending in a harmonious tribute that filled the air with a sense of unity and celebration.
